Point/Counterpoint: Was the Civil War Necessary?

Sunday, January 08, 2012
2pm, Farwell T. Brown Auditorium

Commemorate the 150th anniversary of the conflict that tore our nation apart with a debate about whether it could have been avoided.

Dr. Tom Morain and Dr. William Juhnke will take opposing positions to explore several of the contentious issues leading up to the first shots of the Civil War. Join the debate as they explore the tense political climate of 1860-61 and demonstrate how historians can disagree without being disagreeable.

Let's Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War, a reading and discussion series, has been made possible through a grant from the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES and the AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION in partnership with the Ames Historical Society, Ames Public Library Friends Foundation, Humanities Iowa, and Story County Genealogical Society.
