Readers' Theater - A Soldier's Life: 1861-1865

Saturday, May 12, 2012

2-4pm, Farwell T. Brown Auditorium

Ames was founded in 1864, and many of its early pioneers were Civil War veterans, including Captain Kendrick W. Brown. Fifty years after the end of the war, he wrote about his experiences.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, six costumed readers from the Ames community will present amazing accounts from Brown's writings. K.W.'s war memorabilia will be displayed and his book will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be served.

Let's Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War, a reading and discussion series, has been made possible through a grant from the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES and the AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION in partnership with the Ames Historical Society, Ames Public Library Friends Foundation, Humanities Iowa, and Story County Genealogical Society.
