Automobile crossing the "Old Iron Bridge" over the Skunk River near Soper's Mill in 1914. The bridge was built in 1879 and was replaced by a modern bridge when the road was relocated to the west in the 1930s. Today [1995] the old bridge is preserved in Story County Conservation Park, northeast of Ames. (Note: The Old Iron Bridge was washed out in the June 17, 1996 flood on the Skunk River.)
