When the flood of 1918 washed out the Lincoln Way bridge over the Skunk River east of Ames. This high truss bridge replaced it. The bridge was later moved to the Skunk River crossing northeast of Ames (near the 40 and 8 cabin).

The new plate-girder bridge on South Duff over Squaw Creek following the 1918 flood. Every bridge on the Squaw Creek and the Skunk River adjacent to Ames was either severely damaged or entirely taken out by the flood that year. (Photo, courtesy of the Iowa Department of Transportation.)
