George Yates, photographer for Des Moines Register & Tribune, took this photograph of Ames while flying at 8,000 feet. Photograph, which looks northward, shows: 1. eight buildings occupied by the State Highway Commission; 2. Ames High School Field House and athletic field; 3. railroad tracks of the Chicago & North Western main line; 4. C & NW branch line; 5.tracks for Fort Dodge, Des Moines, and Southern Interurban Railroad streetcar. 6. Squaw Creek 7. the Jefferson Highway (Highway 69, Duff Avenue) 8. the Sheldon-Munn Hotel 9.Ames High School and 10. the Lincoln Highway(Lincoln Way).
