Parley Sheldon, 1844-1932, moved to Ames in 1875. He purchased Story County Bank in 1890, was a councilman in 1883 and mayor in 1884. Served a total of 18 years as mayor over a 32-year period. founded Ames and College Railroad in 1892. On the board of U. S. Good Road Association. Was a factor in making Ames headquarters of the Iowa Highway Commission (later, the Iowa Department of Transportation). Photo from the Ames Intelligencer, 1897. (See also: 98.531.1-2)
