Noted for beautiful flower and shrub plantings, the Ames depot maintained this flower bed that informed all passengers passing by that this was Ames. The bed was located at the east end of the station next to the tracks. ISC horticulturalist Jerry Sexton (1842-1920) designed and supervised the depot gardens. This photo is from a color postcard, printed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and dated 5/1/1900. (See also : 112.616.2-3; 190.1077.2)
