"The Magnificent New Passenger Station at Ames Almost Completed," stated the headline in the September 6, 1900 issue of "The Ames Times." The transportation hub of central Iowa, a foot subway, was added in 1917. After the demise of area passenger trains, the old depot was used for city offices from 1971 to March, 1990.
