The grave of Henry May, Ames's first school teacher, unmarked for 65 years, received a suitable grave stone in December, 1984. Placed by the Ames Heritage Association, it is viewed here by Marvin Miller, left, and Herbert Hatch, Ames Heritage Association board members at the time.

Picture taken in December, 1984, shows Rodney Fox and Farwell Brown looking at the stone that the Ames Heritage Association (later, the Ames Historical Society) placed in the Ames Municipal Cemetery to honor Henry May (1829-1919), Ames's first school teacher.
