Dog Tales was written by local author Kay Marner about Ames Public Library's mascot. A librarian named Miss June has a secret - a dog named Smyles who lives in the library's garage. Follow them on their adventures as they take the bookmobile to its outdoor storytime stops.

Dog Tales Too follows Ames Public Library’s mascot, Smyles the blue dog, as he explores familiar places in Ames, from Brookside Park to the Library. It was written not only to commemorate the opening of the expanded and renovated Ames Public Library, but also to help readers celebrate the old and new all around us.

Joyful Hearts, a local music group, produced this children's CD promoting childhood and environmental literacy in collaboration with Ames Public Library, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and Iowa Learning Farms.
