Teen Book Review - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Title: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Author: J. K. Rowling
Rating: 5 Stars
Review: The conclusion to Harry Potter ends spectacularly. Usually, the last book of any series end quite badly or at least in my experience. Harry Potter, however, exceeded my expectations.
Throughout the course of Harry Potter, characters mature, the writing deepens, and overall, the books don't disappoint fans. I remember when I first read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (or the Philosopher's Stone in the UK version) in 4th grade. It was different than anything I had ever read.
Now as a 9th grader, I still enjoy Harry Potter. One thing I didn't like about Harry Potter?
It ended too quickly.

Teen Book Review - Breaking Dawn

Title: Breaking Dawn
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 1 Star
Review: If you thought Twilight was poorly written, Breaking Dawn is even worse. Bella's transformation from Mary Sue to Super Sue is astonishingly appalling. The already flat characters are paper thin, such as the examples of beautiful Edward and smokin' Jacob. The plot line is horrible and wrecked with plot holes. The monster spawn (I shall not give out too many spoilers) is beyond fanfiction imagination.
The only positive thing I have to say is that more people are reading because of this overly-popular series. If you want good fiction, however, avoid this book at all costs.

Teen Book Review - Twilight

Title: Twilight
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 2 Stars
Review: Sadly, the fandom of Twilight today has ruined this mediocre book. Regardless of this fandom, the book itself is not good. The characters are author self-insertions (Bella) and the male protaganist's portrayal of a stalker is shadowed by his attractiveness.
The storyline isn't the best, nothing happens until the last 5 chapters. Before that, it's about the "attraction" Bella and Edward feel.
This book is not realistic. You can't imagine a "perfect" man to be with. Bella is nothing but a Mary-Sue and the rest of the series aren't very good either.

Teen Book Review - Summer of My German Soldier

Title: Summer of My German Soldier
Author: Bette Greene
Rating: 3 Stars
Review: It was a pretty good book, but a thought that the age difference between them took away from the plot.

Teen Book Review - Flawed Dogs

Title: Flawed Dogs
Author: Berkeley Breathed
Rating: 4 Stars
Review: This is a very good book and I would recommend it greatly. It brings up a lot of very good points about how people judge things, and the dogs are very cute, although rather odd. But that makes them even cuter! Although mostly about love this isn't a mushy gushy love story. It is more about the love between a dog and his master.

Teen Book Review -The Mystery of Cupboard

Title: The Mystery of Cupboard
Author: Lynne Reid Banks
Rating: 3 Stars
Review: This book has little plastic people in it that come to life. It has a pretty good plot but sometimes was a bit dull.

Teen Book Review - Real American Girls

Title: Real American Girls
Author: Dorthy and Thomas Hoobler
Rating: 4 Stars
Review: This book is made of diary entries, letters and autobiographies that girls from different time periods wrote. It was very fun to read about things girls from the past did. Such as when girls slept in four poster beds they named each post after a boy they liked and the first one they looked at in the morning was the one they would marry. This book will surprise girls of all ages, as they find similarities between them and girls of the past.
