Photograph of an article [source and date unknown] about Soper's Mill, an old mill 8 miles northeast of Ames. The image of the mill in this newspaper article dates from around 1870. A short history of Soper's Mill can be found in Gladys Meads's book, "At the Squaw and the Skunk," pp. 6-7. [Note: In 2008, Dale Hughes, of Milford Township, did some research at the State Historical Society in Iowa City and discovered that the photograph that Gladys Meads included in her history is misidentified as "Soper's Mill" and is actually the Stanley Mill on the Iowa River in Marshall County. However, the photograph in this newspaper story is, in truth, Soper's Mill.]
