Cynthia O. Duff, pioneer Ames woman, who with her husband, Alexander Duff, purchased the land in 1863 where the original town of Ames was located when laid out in December, 1864. The Duffs were originally from Onondaga County, New York. (See also: 36.184.1; 37.188B.2-3)
