Nils and Synneva Bauge, natives of Norway, settled on a farm northeast of Huxley in 1866. They were the first of the Bauge family to occupy the log cabin which now sits in McFarland Park (moved there in 1988 and restored by the Ames Heritage Association and the Story County Conservation Board which manages the park).
