Martin and Betsy Morrison. Martin M. Morrison was born in Stavanger, Norway, on March 28, 1844. He was the grandfather of Robert L. Morrison, who is [2002] a resident of Ames. Martin and Betsy's son Zebulon and his wife Anna Knudson Morrison were the parents of Robert. Martin married Bertha (Betsy) Charlson on March 27, 1869, in the Nevada, Iowa, courthouse. Martin's father was Mauritz Mauritsen and his mother was Ane Malena. Bertha Charlson was born September 25, 1848, in Aardal, Norway. After Martin and Betsy's marriage, they settled in Ames. Their house is still [2002] standing, and is located on South Third and Washington Street. Martin was a man of many talents, one of them being photography. He worked as a professional photographer and specialized in stereographs. He took photos both in Norway and in Story County, Iowa, including pictures of Iowa State College and Ames. Martin Morrison was also a painter and wood craftsman. Martin and Betsy had six children--three sons (Zebulon Milton Isaacer, Gerhard [Bert], and Morris) and three daughters (Dena, Deborah [Dora], and Amelia [Millie]). When the family moved to Fruithurst, Alabama, they rented out their Ames home. Martin continued with his photography business and farmed until his death on August 19, 1916. He is buried in Fruithurst.
