Home of Sid Hamilton and his family. Photo is from 1897 Souvenir edition of the Ames Intelligencer. Hamilton was born in Missouri, brought up in New York, and in 1883 moved with his father's family to Ames. In 1894 his father Charles Hamilton, when elected county clerk, left his interest in the family business, a grocery called Hamilton & Co. to Sid. The store was located on Onondaga (Main) Street. In 1893 Sidney Hamilton married Margaret Bigelow, daughter of pioneering businessman, D. A. Bigelow. This house (originally numbered 1203, now 1003) on Duff Avenue is believed to have been extensively remodeled and it remains in use [1994].
