This home of George G. and Lydia C. Tilden, built in 1892 in the Italianate style on corner of Ninth Street and Douglas Avenue, still stands [2011] at the same location, 905 Douglas. When this photo was taken in about 1904, it was the Sigma Nu Fraternity house. It was a fraternity house for five to ten years. The white frame house in background belonged to George and Martha Bacon at 217 Ninth Street (removed sometime in 1920s). In about 1917, the house was remodeled by J. Galen Tilden (son of George G. and Lydia C. Tilden) and his wife Ina Morphy Tilden in the Prairie style. They had, previous to the remodeling, lived in the house next door at 911 Douglas Avenue. From 1958 to 1988, the house at 905 Douglas was occupied by Harry and Edna Svec and their nine children. (See also: 37.186.1; 37.187.1; 37.188B.1; 37.189.4-5)
