Julia Lanning with her horse and buggy coming down Stagecoach Road hill in about 1905. She married Thomas LaMont Gossard, son of Sara Emery Gossard, in 1909, in Ames. Stagecoach Road runs north from Thirteenth Street immediately east of the Skunk River bridge. Stagecoach Road did not bear that name until 1943 when the local Boy Scouts petitioned the county to name it after the conveyance that once carried people between Des Moines and the town of Bloomington (a town that no longer exists). The road comes down onto what was later known as Thirteenth Street. Stagecoach Road was significantly modified over the years and its incline is no longer so precipitous.
