This house, located on the north side of Woodland Avenue (#3621), was built in 1906 by Hans Jacob Hansen, a popular builder in Ames at that time. Hans immigrated to America from Denmark in 1886 at the age of 15. When he was 25, he returned to Denmark and studied at Kjong Hojskole in Glamsberg to develop his carpentry skills. Returning to Ames in 1898, he worked for Thompson and Duntz Construction and early the following year, started his own contracting business building barns on Story County farms. This photograph is courtesy of his daughter, Ruth Hansen Boast. When he built this house for William Perry "Ped" Kintzley in 1906, Hansen's pay was 35 cents an hour; the total labor was $409.20. When I.S.U. men's basketball coach Tim Floyd sold the house in 1998, it brought $350,000. The house was owned and occupied by Iowa State University men's basketball coach Larry Eustachy and his wife Stacey until 2003. The house has been substantially remodelled in recent years.
