Fort Dodge, Des Moines, & Southern railroad high bridge northwest of Boone, Iowa. This trestle bridge was built in 1905 by the Newton and Northwestern Railroad. The line was acquired in 1907 by the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railroad. The bridge was replaced in 1913 by a steel trestle and is still in use [2004], maintained by the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad, which operates tourist trains from its depot in Boone. The trestle bridge is 156 feet high and 800 feet long. The train car in the photo is one of ten purchased in 1907 from the Niles Car Company.
