First Baptist Church was constructed in Ames in 1872. The original building, shown here, was replaced in 1910 by a larger church building on the same site. The house north of the church was the parsonage (shown here to the left, or back of the church) and was built while Walter I. Fowle was the minister, in 1906 or 1907. The church was on the northeast corner of Kellogg Avenue and Fifth Street and is shown here before the streets were paved. [See also: 160.891.1-3]. The man in the photograph in the upper right hand of this album page can no longer be identified. This photograph was taken of a page of the family album of Margaret Mitchell Brown, wife of K. W. Brown (grandfather of Farwell T. Brown). K. W. Brown donated the lots upon which the First Baptist Church was built.
