The "H" Tree located near the Skunk River north of Ames, across the road from the 40-and-8 cabin. Up Highway 69, two miles from Gilbert corner, take the first road east up to the Skunk River Bridge. The tree was located 75 to 80 feet on the left. (The tree eventually died and was removed in the 1980s.) This photograph of the tree was made from a photo card published in Nevada, Iowa, in 1908 [The card reads: "A Story County Wonder near Nevada, Iowa. Copyright by L. D.
