Grounds at the Chicago & North Western station in Ames, taken around 1908. The side shown, with the word "AMES" spelled out in plantings, faced the tracks so that people on trains passing through the station grounds could see the name of the town. The railroad employed the man who had been the gardner for Iowa State College, Jerry Sexton, who was also responsible for all the plantings at all the stations throughout the state of Iowa.
