These five unidentified young men were plasterers who worked on the new Aricultural Hall on the campus of Iowa State College. Ag Hall was designed by Proudfoot & Bird, architects. The general contractor was Henry W. Schleuter. Construction began in 1906, but all construction was suspended in September, 1907, when Schleuter was declared bankrupt. Work soon resumed under the Empire State Surety Company, the bonding company. The building was ready for occupancy in June, 1909. The name was changed to Curtiss Hall in June, 1944, to honor long-time Dean of Agriculture Charles F. Curtiss. (See also: 222.1272.1-2)
