Herman Knapp, treasurer and one-time acting president of Iowa State College, and his family are shown crossing the Squaw Creek Bridge in their buggy on what was then known as Boone Road. The horse's name is Milo. The buggy is headed west toward campus; the year is 1909; and the creek is near flood stage (note the muddy road). Nine years later this bridge collapsed following 1918 flood. Boone Road became Lincoln Way in 1914. It was 1921 before the road was paved west of Squaw Creek. (See also: 23.115.4)
