The photograph was provided to Farwell Brown by Rodney Fox, a journalism professor at Iowa State College/University and the first secretary of the Ames Heritage Association (later, the Ames Historical Society) from a picture taken by his older brother Kirk Fox who was the editor of "Successful Farming" magazine. The Fox brothers grew up in Clayton County near the locale of this photograph.
