The entire student body of Ames High School is pictured in this panorama, taken in front of the school when the building was new in 1912. This was the second high school building and was east of the original school on Clark Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets. The panorama also shows, in the right of the photo, St. John's Episcopal Church's original building on Fifth Street. The original school building, which became the junior high school, can be seen to the left in this photo. The 1912 structure was also used (after 1938) as a junior high. It was razed in 1981 and the area where it stood is now [2011] a parking lot for the Ames City Hall (the 1938 building for Ames High School until 1961 and for Central Junior High from 1961-1986).
