MacKay Hall, identified in the postcard photograph as the Women's Building, on the campus of Iowa State College in around 1912, shortly after the completion of the building which was constructed in 1910-1911 by contractors Benson & Marxer from a design by Proudfoot and Bird architectural firm. Today [2003] MacKay Hall has a limestone exterior. (This was added to the brick exterior shown in this photograph in 1926 when the original building became the west wing of an expanded building with a new center section and an east wing of the same size as the west one.) The Home Economics department of the college moved into the original building in April of 1911, but the formal dedication of the building was not held until May 1, 1912.
