Posing in front of her home at 915 Douglas Avenue is Lydia Cooper Tilden, the widow of George G. Tilden, and her children (Lucian, Galen, George, Mary, and Winifred), their spouses, and her grandchildren. The house is fourth house north of Ninth Street on the west side and still stands today [2005]. The photograph was probably taken in 1913 based on the age of Farwell Brown, born December 17, 1910, who is pictured in the foreground and appears to be about two years of age. Pictured, from left to right, are: Harry F. Brown (father of Farwell Brown); Ina Morphy Tilden (a one-time Ames High School teacher who married Farwell's uncle, Galen Tilden); Mary (Mame)Tilden Brown (mother of Farwell Brown); Galen Tilden; Lydia Tilden (the first woman to be president of the Ames School Board and Farwell's grandmother); Clark Tilden (Farwell's cousin and the son of Lucian and Ruth Tilden); Harriet Tilden (later, Harriet McJimsey, the daughter of Lucian and Ruth Tilden); Lucian (Lou) Tilden, Ruth Duncan Tilden (Lou's wife); George Tilden (who became an attorney practicing in Seattle, Washington); and Winifred Tilden (who was the head of the women's athletic program at Iowa State College). Farwell Tilden Brown is the small child in front and to his right is his cousin, Lydia Tilden (later, Lydia Hake, the daughter of Galen and Ina Tilden). The game at little Farwell's feet is one he played when he visited his grandmother. It was a kind of pop-up toy based on five nursery rhymes.
