The second building, new in 1910 and removed in 1947, of First Baptist Church, was located on the site of its first building, the northeast corner of Fifth Street and Kellogg Avenue. This image is from an original photographic postcard by E. T. Grove ("Photographs of Ames, Iowa, and Its Environs, 1901-1982," #295, compiled and indexed by Farwell T. Brown, Ames Historical Society). Note the dirt streets in front of church--Kellogg Avenue and Fifth Street were not paved until 1916-1918. Also, an enlargement of this photograph [ID 181.1020.1] was one of the items taken from the 1915 time capsule in the Jacobson (Youth and Shelter Services) Building (once the Ames Municipal Building).
