This is one of the photos placed in the cornerstone of the Ames Municipal Building in 1915. It is part of the Youth & Shelter Services Collection. This photo is looking west and shows the north side of Main Street from the Douglas Avenue corner to the Kellogg Avenue corner. The Union National Bank is the first building on the right. Also visible is the barber pole of the O.K. Barbershop which occupied the basement of the bank building. The Tilden store occupied the next two store fronts. Tilden's was extensively remodeled in 1916. Note the three-story Odd Fellows building near the Kellogg corner; this building burned in 1917. The Sheldon Munn Hotel, on the northwest corner of Kellogg and Main, was not yet built when this photograph was taken. Streetcar tracks are visible in the center of the photo.
