Southeast corner of Main Street, at the Kellogg Avenue corner, looking east (note the smoke stack of the Ames power plant in the background), showing the south side of Main Street. The Ames National Bank/Ames Trust & Savings Bank (in 1965, after two new buildings, to become the First National Bank) is located at the corner in the right of photo. This was the second location of the bank in Ames. The original bank, founded in 1903 by Andrew James Graves, was located several blocks east on the same south side of Main Street). This new building was opened for service on December 6, 1913. Beyond the bank is Tallman Jewelers (operated by Lowell C. Tallman), then the Fair Store (occupying the double front building). In the upper floor of the Fair building was the Masonic Lodge until 1916 when it moved to its own building on the corner of Fifth Street and Douglas Avenue. Streetcar #287, in the center of photo, was part of the Interurban Railroad system, operated by Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railroad. Notice the electric lighting, which was relatively new on the corner in front of the bank. Visible on the second floor of the bank is the office of F. H. Waters, dentist. This photo is the left side of a panoramic (for the right side, see 128.704.5-6 and 128.705.1). (See also: 126.696.1-5)
