After a substantial majority vote of the Iowa State College student body in the Spring of 1913, the campus became smoke-free until World War I. Here is ISC President Pearson's request for cooperation in enforcing the smoking ban in 1916. Student Army Training Corps (1917-18) and free distribution of cigarettes to army personnel eventually made the ban difficult to enforce. (See also: 160.890.1-5)
