W.L. "Bill" Allan, blacksmith and member of City Council, in cartoon likeness which appeared in a series "Our Men of Affairs" in the 1917 "Ames Times". Was mayor of Ames in 1938 when the short street off of Grand Avenue underpass was named Allan Drive in his honor. His blacksmith shop became Allan Machine Shop and was later operated by his son Wendell L. Allan. Blacksmith shop begun in 1884 by Willliam Allan's father. (See also: 14.66.1-2).
