From a postcard picture of the Sheldon-Munn Hotel before the addition on the west end (1926). Car in the photograph on the east end of the hotel is a Reo. Taken probably between 1917 and 1919 when the hotel was quite new. The canopy over the front entrance was an early feature of the hotel which was gone after a few years. Notice the people seated in chairs under the canopy; this was a common practice at hotels in those days. The Story County Bank was the main occupant in the corner of the building (this was Parley Sheldon's bank).(Photograph is from a color postcard in Farwell Brown's "Postcards of Ames, Iowa, and Environs," #305,306, and 307. #307 has a postmark of 1921.)
