Looking north on Grand Avenue in 1919 (then known as the Wilson Highway) beyond Thirteenth Street. Second house on right in photo still (1991) stands at intersection of Twentieth and Grand. This portion of Grand was not paved for another ten years. The planking was installed by Iowa Highway Commission to cover holes caused by weathering. Water often stood in field at left in the spring.
