A 1919 photocard of the Sheldon-Munn Hotel. In 1915-16, Parley Sheldon and H. L. Munn teamed up to build a much needed new hotel for Ames on the corner of Main Street and Kellogg Avenue. The hotel became a social center for both the town and Iowa State College. For many years, its banquet rooms, main diningroom, and ballroom were in demand. Note the horse and buggy at the Main Street entrance. There was still a mixture of horses and automobiles in Ames at the time. The post office, built in 1911-12, can be seen at the right of the photograph, north of the Sheldon-Munn on Kellogg Avenue. This is the same photograph as 32.158.4, but with more details included on the left side of the photo.
