Located eight miles north of Ames, Lake Comar was a very popular recreational park. It was known as Watkin's Well until purchased by Fred Corneliussen of Story City and S.L. Marvic of Ames, who renamed the park by combining portions of their names. The swimming area was developed in 1920 and Olympic swimmer Johnny Weismuller put on exhibitions there. Photo courtesy of S.
