Timberhitch Lodge, a simulated log house, was headquarters of the Boy Scouts of America in Ames. Located on the north side of Fifth Street to east of alley north of Public Library (1991: store building). (Cabin was moved to South Riverside Drive and converted into a house in the 1930's). Split logs were nailed to sides of building to simulate log cabin. Contained office for scout executive, Ed. G. Stowell, and large meeting room with stone fireplace. Troops met here as well as BSA executives and committees. Money for the building was raised by Ames Lions Club. This was forerunner of the Tall Corn District of BSA. The house on South Riverside Drive fell victim to the 1993 Sqaw Creek flood and no longer exists.
