The south entrance to the Iowa State College campus in about 1925. The photo looks north from campustown toward Alumni Hall, built in 1904-07. The hill to the left held no buildings as of yet. Later in that area dormitories were constructed. On the extreme right center of the photograph is Stanton House (then called Music Hall) which was built in 1868-70 and from 1879 until his death in 1920 was the home of Edgar W. Stanton. This structure was razed in 1978 in preparation for the construction of the large Music Building (now called Music Hall). To the left of Stanton House, in the trees, is the English Office Building. Beyond Alumni Hall, in the center of the photo, is the north end of Beardshear Hall, still called Central Building at this time (it was renamed Beardshear in 1938).
