The sundial in the midst of Harry F. Brown's iris beds in his gardens at 1011 Kellogg Avenue in 1925. Harry Brown, father of Farwell Tilden Brown, was by trade an insurance salesman, but his passion was designing and caring for his gardens. He often employed Iowa State College horticulture students to work in the extensive formal and informal gardens surrounding his house. Horticulture professors would bring classes to visit Harry Brown's gardens and one day some horticulture students presented Brown with this hand-cast sundial, made on the campus of Iowa State, in appreciation for his work with ISC students.
