Katharina Diehl (1874-1959) served as the first matron supervisor of nursing at Mary Greeley Hospital, from its first year, 1916, until her retirement in 1945. Born in Germany, Diehl, in her 29 years of service, established the Ames hospital on a solid foundation of nursing care. (Photo is courtesy of the Ames chapter of the Eastern Star.)
