A billboard advertising the Tilden Store. The board appeared on Highway 69 just north of Des Moines. At the time Clark Tilden, the manager of the store and the grandson of its founder, was campaigning to keep Ames retail business in Ames. The sign was placed so that Ames shoppers headed for Des Moines would see it. "The Des Moines Register," in an article on June 2, 1934, called the billboard "the most refreshingly cocky sign seen recently on Iowa Highways."
