The Grand Avenue underpass taken from the Lincoln Way approach as it appeared around the time of its original construction in 1937. Later some changes were made in the approach to the underpass. On the left the old Interurban Depot is no longer visible--it had been moved back to make way for the construction. On the right, one can barely see the Kimler Coal & Ice Co. among the trees. There were three overhead railroad trestles. The one seen here, the southbound line which angled off to the south toward Des Moines, was later removed (sometime in the 1970s).
