The entrance to the women's physical education building on the campus of Iowa State College in 1941. After a long battle, begun in 1925 by the head of the women's physical education program Winifred R. Tilden, to obtain a building dedicated to women's athletics, this building was finally built in 1940-41. It was the destruction by fire in 1938 of Margaret Hall, which held some facilities for women's athletics, that Ms Tilden's battle was finally won and the new building was funded by the state legislature.
