The spigot over the artesian well, north of Ames in the 1950s. The well was on Highway 69, about two and half miles south of Story City, just north of William B. Rood's Artesian Filling Station. The well was eventually covered over, probably because of the congestion caused by people stopping by the well to fill containers with artesian water. There is a flow of artesian wells in this area running from northwest to southeast. The once popular Lake Comar was fed by artesian waters from this area.
