Part of the piping system of the artesian well north of Ames in the 1950s. The well was on U.S. Highway 69, about two and a half miles south of Story City. The well was eventually covered over, probably because of the congestion caused by people stopping to fill containers with artesian water. There is a flow of artesian wells in this area running from northwest to southeast. The once popular Lake Comar was fed by artesian waters from this area.
