What was once an outdoor stage at the Lake Comar recreational facility, located eight miles north of Ames, two miles south of Story City, and one mile east of U.S. Highway 69. Comar included an a lake fed by an artesian well, a 9-hole golf course and various forms of outdoor performances. In 1914, Lake Comar was named for its two owners, Fred COrneliussen and S. L. MARvic. The recreational area operated from that time through the 1940s. In late 1957, Joe and Garth Buchanan bought the property of approximately 100 acres and used it to raise Arabian horses, one of which appears in the photograph. The old stage building was converted to storage for baled hay. This photograph dates from the 1970s.
