The New Frontier Motel opened for service in 1977 on west Highway 30 in Ames. It was part of the Friendship Inn Hotels chain. Ray and JoAnne Leibold ran the Ames franchise. Its ad in the 1977 Ames city directory reads, "Triple AAA motel, pool, Broiler and Mister Steak restaurants, playground, W Lincoln Way 2 miles west of Iowa State University, Tel. 292-2056" This photograph is from a postcard.
