The "H-tree," near Gilbert, Iowa, taken in 1980 when the site was visited by Farwell Brown and Rodney Fox. The tree (actually either a natural or intentional graft of a Slippery Elm and American Elm) is here shown in a state of decay. Note the woodpecker hole in the upper trunk of the tree on the right. The H-tree was completely removed shortly after this photograph was taken.
